Bone Density Scan
Measurement of bone mineral density using the DEXA method. It is used in osteoporosis follow-up and in assessing fracture risk.
How the test works

The referral and your earlier tests are recorded when the appointment is booked.

Where a bone density scan needs preparation, the fasting, medication and clothing rules are shared in writing beforehand.

The scan or sampling is completed within the planned time, accompanied by a technician.

A specialist reviews the report; the result is uploaded to the online archive and you are notified.

Cross-sectional images of soft tissue produced with a magnetic field and radio waves. It involves no ionising radiation and is preferred for the brain, spine, joints and abdomen.
