Real-time imaging of the organs using sound waves. Because it carries no radiation it is used in pregnancy follow-up and for repeated reviews.
How the test works

The referral and your earlier tests are recorded when the appointment is booked.

Where an ultrasound needs preparation, the fasting, medication and clothing rules are shared in writing beforehand.

The scan or sampling is completed within the planned time, accompanied by a technician.

A specialist reviews the report; the result is uploaded to the online archive and you are notified.
Other tests in this unit
MRI Scan
Cross-sectional images of soft tissue produced with a magnetic field and radio waves. It involves no ionising radiation and is preferred for the brain, spine, joints and abdomen.
CT Scan
Thin sections of the body imaged with a rotating X-ray source. It gives fast answers for bone structure, the lungs and urgent assessments.
Digital X-Ray
A digital radiograph taken at a low dose. It is the first-line examination for bone, chest and sinus assessment.
